Right-To-Work-For-Less Effort Defeated in PA: Barely

posted in: Uncategorized | 13

We’ve written before about the now all too familiar subject of Right-To-Work-For-Less  laws proposed in Pennsylvania, including the deliberately misnamed “Paycheck Protection” bills. These laws are contrived by the 1% to make sure that working people do not have any voice in the workplace.  In Pennsylvania, working families narrowly survived the most recent effort in the Senate to pass Right-To-Work-For-Less laws. Last month, the Senate defeated a “Paycheck Protection” bill by the narrowest of margins: 25-24, with Democratic Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack casting the tie-breaking vote.  While the defeat of “Paycheck Protection” is a victory, this effort almost passed in the Senate. The fact that the new Lt. Governor had to cast the tie-breaking vote means that working men and women must up the ante in the next election cycle and take back the seats of those who choose to dismantle the rights that workers before us have fought and died over.

Don’t be mislead, there is nothing about this law that will protect your paycheck. Right-To-Work-For-Less is a guarantee that your paycheck will suffer—yes, your paycheck will suffer. The only paychecks that will be protected are the paychecks for Corporate America. Don’t let the spin hide the truth: these laws really are meant to be Right-To-Work-For-Less.

The familiar adage of shooting yourself in the foot is particularly appropriate here, except you’d be shooting yourself in the wallet. They want you to support this, they want you to think that you’re benefiting yourself and those around you. The fact is that supporting “Paycheck Protection” bills and Right-To-Work-For-Less means that you’re doing exactly the opposite—you’re protecting the 1%.
